SkillsActive Employers Group Respond To HSE
21 September 2011
The response from SkillsActive's Outdoor Employers' Group to the Health & Safety Executive's consultation on the code of practice replacement for the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) has now been published and includes these key points:
- Endorsement of the need for a code of practice to encompass, support and promote a system of voluntary, independent verification. They also suggested that a range of existing schemes are able to meet this need to varying degrees.
- Creation of a publicly available "approved" register to show those providers who have voluntarily submitted themselves to an inspection and can be confirmed as complying with the code of practice. This list to be maintained by an appropriate independent body.
- Compliance with the code should be highlighted via a single, promotable "badge" system that is recognised UK wide.
- Concerns about the significant £500,000 cost of producing the Code of Practice when public money has previously been used to develop a UK wide non-statutory accreditation system.
