New Kingswood Centre Plans Approved
22th July 2011
Doncaster Council have approved plans submitted by Kingswood to turn the site of the former Earth Centre into a 400 bed residential outdoor education centre. The plans include an 11,000 sq ft indoor activity centre and sports hall, computer classrooms, meeting rooms, and outdoor and indoor amphitheatres.
Councillor Chris McGuinness, chairman of the Doncaster Council planning committee, said: "Although the site is located within green belt, the committee considered that the development is acceptable in terms of its impact upon the area, ecology, highways, flood risk and sustainability."
Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies said: "I am delighted to see Kingswood's proposals passing this vital planning phase. A real strength of the plans is they represent a natural continuation of the site's heritage as a centre for learning focused on environmental sustainability."
The new Kingswood Dearne Valley Centre plans to open during 2012, subject to completion of the sale in August.
