Lanehead Centre Closes After 40 Years

27th December 2011

Lanehead Centre Closes After 40 YearsLanehead Outdoor Centre in Coniston has been forced to close due to funding cuts. The lake district centre was jointly funded by the boroughs of Middlesbrough, Stockton on Tees, Redcar and Cleveland, and Hartlepool. The centre was originally a country residence and sits on the hillside above the East shores of Coniston Water, with views over the lake towards Coniston Old Man. The centre officially shut on December 2nd, after the final visitors from Acklam Grange School, Middlesbrough, left.

A centre spokeswoman said "We would like to thank all the schools and groups that have used the centre over the last 40 years and particularly those who have been so supportive during the last 12 months. We wish all our visitors the very best for the future and hope that they are able to continue to offer outdoor residential visits to their students at an alternative venue for years to come."
