Kingswood Deal Brings Earth Centre Back To Life
29th March 2011
Kingswood Outdoor Education & Adventure Centres have announced a deal to buy the site of the former "Earth Centre" eco tourist attraction from Doncaster Council. They plan to turn it into a 400-bed residential activity centre employing over 200 staff. The Earth Centre was created in 1999 with £55m funding from the Millennium Commission on the site of a former colliery at Denaby, South Yorkshire. It closed its doors in 2004 and the site has been derelict ever since. Kingswood aim to keep many of the existing buildings – including the education centre and the water treatment plant. The new centre plans to complete refurbishment in time to welcome school groups from Spring 2012.
