Instructor Dies In Cumbria Canoeing Incident
13th September 2011
A 24 year old Canoe Instructor has died after a canoeing incident on the River Eamont in Penrith, Cumbria. Grant Kinnie, who worked at the Patterdale Hall Outdoor Education Centre, Glenridding, was one of four instructors leading a canoeing session with 11 Year 10 students from Bolton School. Grant Kinnie and a teenage boy, believed to have been in the same canoe, plunged into the fast-flowing water when their craft capsized. Witnesses said the river was flowing unusually fast due to heavy rainfall the day before. The Health & Safety Executive is running a joint investigation with Cumbria Police.
