Humphrey Head Centre To Close
15th March 2011
North Yorkshire County Council have decided to close the Humphrey Head Centre Outdoor in Cumbria and their facility at Great Fryupdale on the North York Moors. The closures come as North Yorkshire County Council battles to save £69 million over the next four years. Schools in the area covered by the authority will have to contribute cash to ensure the opening of the two other larger centres, Bewerley Park, near Pateley Bridge, and East Barnby, near Whitby. The council's children and young people's service has to save more than £19 million, most of it within the next two years, but the authority says every pupil will be guaranteed at least one week of outdoor education.
