Hornsea Outdoor Centre Faces Sale Or Closure
22th July 2011
Wakefield Council will decide the fate of Hornsea Outdoor Residential Centre next week as Senior councillors decide it's future in the wake of budget cuts. The council are considering closing down the 60 bed centre in October, developing a partnership arrangement or selling off the centre. Annual funding of over £200,000 per year has recently been withdrawn and the cost to upgrade the building is estimated at between £800,000 and £1.5m.
Councillor Olivia Rowley, Cabinet member for children and young people, said: "I appreciate that Hornsea is a very valued resource which has been enjoyed by generations of Wakefield school children for many years...The centre needs a lot of money spending on it and the council is faced with saving &pond;67m from our budgets over the next four years."
