Future Secured For Plas Y Brenin
20th April 2011
The Mountain Training Trust (MTT) have secured a new 15 year contract to manage Plas y Brenin, the National Outdoor Centre in Capel Curig, Wales. The new contract offers MTT a secure and certain future allowing for greater development and forward planning. This long-term view will help to provide increased opportunity and greater support for participants in mountain sport, and allow more comprehensive support for the National Governing Bodies who rely on Plas y Brenin. The centre currently runs residential outdoor courses programmes throughout the year, with up to 85 residents participating in courses 7 days a week. Typically there are around 6,000 residential course participants per year and a further 50,000 outdoor activity sessions are delivered to day visitors. It offers a full range of mountaineering, paddle sport and biking qualification courses, some of which are delivered from other locations at different times of the year. MTT was set up as a charitable company in 1996 by the British Mountaineering Council, Mountain Leader Training England, and Mountain Leader Training UK. It also works closely with a wide range of other National Governing Bodies including British Cycling, The British Canoe Union and British Orienteering.
