BCU Win 2015 Bid
20th April 2011
The British Canoe Union (BCU) has won the bid to stage The International Canoe Federation 2015 Canoe Slalom World Championships at Lee Valley White Water Centre. This will be the first time in 20 years that British competitors will be competing in the event on home turf, and British canoeists hope this will give them an edge not only in terms of medals, but to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The bid was supported by the Government through the body UK Sport, who are investing £750,000 in the championships. The £30 million venue created in Broxbourne, Herts for the 2012 London Olympics is the first newly-built Olympic venue to be awarded a world championship.
